Ein Rückblick in die Geschichte unserer Wünsche

For Love of the Automobile - looking back at the History of Our Desires
by Wolfgang Sachs

This book analyses the role of cars in our society. Drawing on historical material, mainly from Germany, Sachs shows us how cars are much more than means of transport. They are surrounded by feelings and whishes, that turn them into a cultural symbol. It starts at the beginning of our car-needs, when the love for fastness and comfort is born and we get addicted to the car as a timesaving machine. It is a small plea against cars, one of the first attempts to clear our lifedesign, to make room for an ecological future.
