About his background, Florian Brody says: "I was born in 1953 in Vienna into a family of publishers and 'raised' on film history and Vienna in the 50s and 60s. I acquired my basic understanding of media at the French Film Archives in Paris. My academic background is in linguistics and computer science. I worked for many years at the Austrian National Library, where I did everything from Assembler programming to library automation management. I got interested in CD-ROM when it hit the market in 1985. I have worked as independent consultant for New Media for the last ten years. At the Voyager Company, I worked on the development of the Expanded Books."

Brody is a leading specialist in New Media and Electronic Publishing and runs his own consulting company, New Media Consulting, in Vienna, Austria. He was technical director of the Expanded Book Project at The Voyager Company, Santa Monica, CA and produces Electronic books in Vienna. He holds teaching assignments at the Vienna University and Design School. Brody is president of the Austrian Society of Virtual Reality, Telepresence and Cyberspace.
