Amy S. Bruckman
Presently a PhD candidate in Media Arts and Sciences in the Epistemology and Learning Group (June, 1995) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Amy S. Bruckman received her M.S. in Media Arts and Sciences in the Interactive Group, where she designed and implemented hypermedia systems, researched knowledge representation techniques for multimedia databases and studied the application of computer science to video production and post-production.

Her dissertation project, 'MOOSE Crossing', is a multi-user, virtual community designed to provide children 9 to 14 years old with an authentic context to learn reading, writing and programming. She is founder and manager of MediaMOO, a professional MUD community for media researchers, with more than 900 members from 22 countries. She holds a BA degree from Harvard College in physics with biophysics emphasis cum laude in 1987. At present, she is a graduate student representative to the Faculty Commitee on Privacy at MIT and a member of 'Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility'.
