Lynn Hershman
Lynn Hershman is an artist who uses many media. She created the first interactive art videodisk Lorna in 1979 and has had over 160 exhibitions throughout the world, including the Museum of Modern Art (NY), The New Museum, The International Center for Photography, ZKM Karlsruhe, Institute of Contemporary Art London and the Museum of Modern Art, Chicago.
She has won numerous awards for her 48 videotapes and three interactive installations, including Spain, France, Italy, Austria (Ars Electronic) and the United States.
She was the first woman and electronic artist honored with a tribute at this year's San Francisco International Film Festival. Recently she won the Ann Gerber award from the Seattle Art Museum of Art. Exhibits this year include the Carpenter Center (Harvard), The National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa), The Contemporary Art Centre in Warsaw and others.
Articles by her will appear in numerous publications including Leonardo, MIT Press, Bay Press and the University of California Press.
She is a senior Professor at the University of California at Davis where she recently initiated the I.D.E.A. Lab devoted to Electronic Arts.
Among her videotapes are Virtual Love, aired on ZDF last fall, and The Electronic Diary series aired on National PBS.
