Hiroshi Ishii
Hiroshi Ishii was born in Tokyo, Japan on February 4, 1956. He received a B. E. degree in electronic engineering and M. E. and Ph. D. degrees in computer engineering from Hokkaido University, Japan, in 1978, 1980 and 1992 respectively. He is currently a senior research engineer and supervisor of NTT Human Interface Laboratories, Japan.
He joined NTT Yokosuka Electrical Communications Laboratories in 1980. In 1986 and 1987, he was a visiting research associate at GMD (The German National Research Centre for Computer Science) in Bonn, Germany. In 1993 and 1994, he taught CSCW as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Toronto, Canada.
His research interests focus on human-computer interaction (HCI), Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), and the role of CSCW technologies in cross-cultural communication.
He has a number of publications including a paper on TeamWorkStation in Communications of the ACM, December 1991, a paper on ClearBoard (ACM TOIS, October 1993) and a paper on Interactive Design of Seamless Collaboration Media (Communications of the ACM, August 1994).
He is currently an Associate Editor of ACM TOIS (Transactions on Information Systems), an Editor of the Journal of Collaborative Computing and an Advisory Board member of the International Journal of Computer Supported Cooperative Work. He will be an Associate Editor of ACM TOCHI, beginning in 1995. He also serves as a program committee member of many international conferences.
