Pattie Maes received her Ph. D. in Computer Science at the University of Brussels.

Since 1990, she has worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, first as a research scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and more recently as an Assistant Professor at the Media Laboratory. She is interested in Artificial Life and Artificial Intelligence and is especially occupied with modelling artificial autonomous agents of all sorts.
