Joy Mountford
S. Joy Mountford studied Engineering Psychology at the University of Illinois, following a degree at University College, London. For about seven years, she has managed the Human Interface Group at Apple's Advanced Technology Group - responsible, among other things, for the development of QuickTime (mini-movies playable on a Macintosh computer), Navigable Scenes, Bubble Help and AppleSearch.

Before joining Apple, she worked at MCC, America's 5th Generation computer consortium, and designed user interfaces for military avionics at Honeywell. Her past research experience has focused on the application of such technologies as speech recognition and generation, intelligent systems, tactile controllers and head-mounted display systems.

Mountford initiated and continues to run Apple's International Design Project. She also produced the Art of Human-Computer Interface Design, a key text in the field. Her personal interests include encouraging interface innovation in applications such as choreography, animation and performance.
