Dick Rijken
Dick Rijken is a psychologist who has taken extensive excursions
into computer science and electronic music. He was involved in setting up
an expertise centre for artificial intelligence and managed a research project
for Apple Computer's Advanced Technology Group in the field of computer
animation. He was head of the Interaction Design department at the Utrecht
School of the Arts until 1995. There, he directed the development of a four-year
curriculum and an expertise centre in interaction design.
In 1995 he worked for the Netherlands Design Institute on content for DOME
(Doors On Matter Environment), an electronic collaborative environment that
supports the Design Institute's third Doors of Perception conference. He
is also involved in setting up a post-graduate degree in design for new
media at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam and works as an independent
consultant in the field of new media.
His current interests concern the application of computer-based media in
business, education, and entertainment -- how new ways of thinking and new
approaches to design are required and how these application areas themselves
are transformed by new technologies: from thing to process, from thing to
environment, from design to facilitation...
