John Wood

John Wood (1945) was deputy head of the Fine Art dept. at Goldsmiths University of London between 1978 and 1988 before writing the first holistic, environmentally sensitive design degree programme in the UK (BA in Design Studies, and is currently programme leader for the Design Futures MA, Goldsmiths University of London).

As a practicing artist, Wood has built and exhibited site specific installations including a full-size fake peep-show in Soho, London, and in Norwich Cathedral, UK (1986). As a performer he was a member of Deaf School rock group and toured extensively, releasing 4 albums (latest 1989). His designs include some energy conservation circuits and inventions for solar energy systems (1973), the 'IDEAbase' authoring software, and some polemical electronic toys ('Machine for Saying Sorry', etc.).
